DUI in another State

If you are arrested for a DUI in a state other than your own, you may be subjected to an incredibly complex process. If you are arrested in another state, they will make you go through the entire criminal process just the way a state resident would have to. They don’t make any special arrangements for those who are out of state residents.

When you are arrested, you will be booked in their jail and sent to see a judge for your bail hearing. The judge will assign you a bail amount that you will be required to pay in order to get yourself out of jail. You will also be required to go through a trial in order to finish the process. If you are found guilty, they will give you a sentence that you will be required to complete. First-time offenders are usually required to pay a fine and attend alcohol awareness classes, although the sentences can vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

It is important for you to realize that information about your DUI in another state will be available to officials in your home state because of the interstate compact, an agreement that allows all states to view driving history from anyone in another state.
